Choosing the new Josephine's Filipino Restaurant and Catering Service on Main Street in Vancouver as its venue for this significant occassion, Filnet's Dinner and Officer's Induction will be the Society's first social function since its inception in 1995 and incorporation in January, 2000. This semi-formal, coat and tie affair will also be the first opportunity for FilNet members to get together and socialize as as a group.

The new officers to be inducted are

  • Manny Masongsong - President
  • Roberto Piezas - Vice President
  • Emily Tolentino - Secretary
  • Art Mendoza - Treasurer

The FilNet Board, along with the Society's Socials, Sports and Recreation Committee are busy planning for this significant event. The officers were elected to the Board during FilNet's first General Meeting held at the PeopleSoft's office in Vancouver on March 11, 2000. • Promotions and Fund-raising Committee - Cal Venida, Coordinator
  • Awards Selection Committee - Open

To date, FilNet has hosted technical presentations in addition to planning sessions prior to the first General Meeting last month. For additional information on FilNet events, please click here or the "Events" link on the left.

Josephine's Restaurant is located at 2650 Main Street (corner 11th Ave) in Vancouver. It was chosen because of FilNet's desire to support and promote Filipino businesses in Vancouver.

    The dinner menu includes:

  • Lechon
  • Menudo
  • Caldereta
  • Chopsuey
  • Embotido
  • LechonPancit Guisado
  • Lumpiang Shanghai

We would like to thank Goldilock's of Vancouver for generously supplying FilNet with such a lovely cake for its inauguration ceremony.

Please ensure you get your tickets as soon as they become available as they are limited. The tickets cost $15 each. There will also be door prizes and a 50-50 draw.

Filnet Chooses Official Logo

Another milestone in FilNet's evolution has just been achieved.

The FilNet logo which will soon appear on FilNet website and its letterhead, was officially adopted by the Society's Board during a meeting held at Manny Masongsong's residence in North Delta last March 26th.

The logo was designed by Paolo Matias, son of our member, Roberto (Robbie). It symbolizes and represents a combination of Filipino and Canadian theme as shown by its colours, the stars and the Maple leaf.

On behalf of FilNet's general membership, the Board of Directors would like to extend our congratulations, appreciation and thanks to Robbie and Paolo for their very significant contribution to our organization.

Irene Balao to Uncover the Mysteries of Object Oriented Programming

Active X, Java, C++? For the FilNet techies and those with inquisitive mind, April 8 is a good opportunity to find out what Object Oriented technology is all about.

Irene Balao, Systems Analyst and Project Leader from ICBC, will, again, share her strong technical knowledge and shed light on the subject at a presentation to be held on April 8 at the Filipino Canadian Support Services drop in centre on Fraser Street in Vancouver.

Irene also conducted an earlier presentation on ICBC's web applications which was hosted by De Malong of LedaLite in Langley. It was held last February 5, 2000.

We look forward to this exciting presentation by Irene. As we will be providing a donation for the use of the FCSS facility, we encourage our attendees, in turn, to part with their hard earned loonie or two, as they register at the door.

We hope to see you all there!.

FilNet Information Technology Society (FilNet for short) Now Official

Vancouver, December 23, 1999 - Art Mendoza has announced that our application for registration under FilNet Information Technology Society has been approved. This is one big step towards the formalization of an organization for Filipino-Canadians in Information Technology. The three names that have been submitted, in order of preference, are:

  • FilNet Information Technology Society
  • Filtech Information Technology Society
  • Filipino Information Technology Society (FITS)

Art indicated that his friend who was involved in this process has refused to accept our payment, making it the first donation towards our objectives.

Thanks to the hard work and dedication by Art for this successful first big step. Also, a heartfelt thanks to Art's friend at the Bailiff's office for his contribution and assistance. Also, thank you all for helping with our name selection.
